ABOUT
Jared Barel is a filmmaker, animator, illustrator, designer, and graphic novelist based in Los Angeles. He is the owner and founder, along with his brother, Jordan Barel, of Loaded Barrel Studios, an award winning publisher of comics and graphic novels and the production studio behind Jared's film and illustration work. He frequently works in New York and New Jersey and has clients all over the world, so don't be afraid to call him for your project wherever you are.
Film
Jared is an accomplished director, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor, animator, and producer. He has worked on a plethora of major label and independent music videos, features, short films, trailers, documentaries, and industrials.
Most notably, Jared’s debut feature film as Director, Producer, and Editor, THE INCOHERENTS, was acquired by Gravitas Ventures for distribution in April of 2020. The acquisition was announced by VARIETY in March, 2020. THE INCOHERENTS is a comedic film about a middle-aged guy who gets his 90s rock band back together and is a co-production between Loaded Barrel Studios, Ronan Jean Productions, and Starna Productions. The feature won many awards during its festival run included Best Director as well as Best Narrative Feature at the Studio City Film Festival in Los Angeles. As an editor and screenwriter, Jared frequently gets called to help filmmakers hone their stories, whether it's a feature in post-production or a short in the midst of shooting. Recently, Jared was hired to create an animated sequence for the feature film UNCAGED utilizing his signature "live-action" illustration stylings to help pull the narrative together. UNCAGED can be watched on Netflix now. In 2016, Jared was nominated for Best Editor for the short film DYSGENESIS by the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema London.
In 2014, Jared's trailer for BRIELLE AND THE HORROR was nominated for a Geekie Award for Best Trailer.

Illustration
Jared is the artist and writer for the award winning graphic novels GREY and BRIELLE AND THE HORROR published by Loaded Barrel Studios as well the forthcoming graphic novel DARK CLOUD and the recently released graphic novel HA.I.LEY released by ComicMix Publishing.
“Live-Action Graphic Novel” is the phrase that Loaded Barrel Studios uses to describe Jared’s unique art stylings in which every panel on every page of his comics are set up and shot like a film on digital stills with live actors, props, costumes, etc. and then converted into the “comic” art that you see in the book through a fusion of traditional and digital illustration, photo manipulation, and computer generated imaging to create a visual experience unlike any other.
Jared was recently hired by Garbo Studios in Switzerland to illustrate Steve McQueen for a two part graphic novelization of the film "Le Mans" under license from CBS Broadcasting. On the FILM page, you can watch the teaser for the graphic novel that Jared directed, animated and edited.
Jared is a mainstay at many comic cons throughout the United States, particularly in the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia areas and in and around Los Angeles.

Design and Art Direction
On top of being a noted Filmmaker and Illustrator, Jared is also quite the accomplished Graphic Designer and Art Director. He most recently won Designer of the Year from the L.A. Book Festival in 2014. He has served as Art Director for a number of agencies and serves as the Creative Director, among many other positions, for Loaded Barrel Studios. Jared received his B.F.A from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in Graphic Design and his M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts M.F.A. Design Program - where his thesis design project was a short film… go figure.
Recently, Jared was hired by Cognotion to Art Direct and Project Manage their $1.5M healthcare educational tech project ReadyCNA which was comprised of 80 hours of content including 20 hours of motion graphics based on Jared's designs and animation.
Today, most of Jared’s design and motion graphics work is focused on entertainment industry clients including feature films and the music industry, but occasionally, he can be found working on animations for clients like Sprint or Anheuser-Busch.
